"What is the point of PRISM "

About: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust

My 19yr old daughter is at uni in Cambridge and has been struggling with mental health for a while. As i used to manage a CAMHS service I am in the blessed position of having a trusted mental health professional colleague who has had some conversation with her and suggested some CBT would be a good option. She was referred to PRISM by the GO, and eventually seen on 11 Dec where she was told she needed to start medication. No offer of talking therapies, no clear plan of why or where but told she would get a call in a week or so. She has spoken to the worker again on the phone and requested to have some CBT, or talking therapy, before starting medication, to be told they can't do that and to refer herself to MIND. No clear direction of where, or how, or any support to do so. My daughter is now very confused about what is going on. Got no clear sense of the plan, or the reason for the plan, and is feeling increasingly unheard and let down. I think it's appalling that at 19yrs old, the first response is to tell a young adult that she needs to be on medication, which is not first line treatment for pretty much most mental health issues. Then not properly support with accessing anything else. Where is the care planning? Where is the patient choice? Where is the facilitation to access appropriate care? In fact, where is the consideration for setting a young person onto a life of medication? I find it frankly shocking!!
