"My feeding specialist was there to listen"

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service

(as a service user),

After issues nursing my son three and a half years ago, I was keen to seek support early doors with my daughter. What a difference the correct person and support makes - my feeding specialist was there to listen, not judge, helped with babies latch and my confidence. It did not go unnoticed by me that she very rarely placed her hands on me (without asking first) which allowed me to practise techniques myself with her standing by so that I knew I could feed baby after she left us to it. There were quite a few moments in the first 6 weeks that I felt I may stop feeding due to my Ill health and the simple fact that nursing a baby is bloomin’ difficult but my feeding specialist helped me through with the odd text message or phone call in between visits. I would like to emphasise again however that Collete’s level of care, empathy and sense of humour are what made the difference here as she truly helped instil the confidence in me that I could do it. My feeding journey isn’t over yet, but I know I can make contact again with any questions or concerns and that makes all the difference to my family!

Dear Emair

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.

Sorry to hear that you experienced feeding issues with your son.

I am pleased to hear that you had a positive experience with your feeding specialist. It is great that you felt listened to and supported throughout your journey. I will ensure that your feedback forwarded to Collette as this really helps to improve staff morale.

I hope you are enjoying family time with lots of cuddles.

Kind regards

Alison Nicol

Hi

Your comments have just been forwarded to me and it's great to hear that you were supported by Collette Breast Feeding Support Worker. I'd also like to thank you for your honesty because breast feeding can be difficult. Although you had breast fed before it is a new skill for you with a different baby and a new skill for your baby but as you have shown there is help available.

I will make sure Collette gets your feedback and thanks again for taking the time especially at this busy time of year.

Judith
