"They make it so hard"

About: Tollerton Surgery

(as a service user),

I am not a dispensing patient as it is often hard for me to get to the surgery. However when I needed something urgently and was in the surgery it wasnt allowed as there is too much paperwork to change me to dispensing.I feel there is little understanding or flexibility for people who don’t drive, and find it hard when already feeling poorly to go for an 8 mile bike ride (each way! ) to the nearest chemist.

I was made to feel like I was being awkward and a burden when they eventually changed me to dispensing, and it was horrible.  I have now been told I can’t have my monthly prescription sent out because it would be too much bother to change me back to a non-dispensing patient, but it’s still just as hard for me to get to the surgery as it was before. So all I can do is stop taking the regular medication and just go in when it’s an emergency. I hope they go to electronic prescriptions soon so I can get meds again.

On behalf of all at Tollerton Surgery, I am really sorry you have had some difficulties with prescriptions. However I would urge you not to discontinue any prescribed medications as this might be unsafe for your health. We try and be as flexible as possible to all our patients taking into account any difficulties they might have with accessing their care. Therefore I am sure we can find a solution to the issues you describe. Please contact the surgery; we offer telephone and skype appointments for patients who find it difficult to get to the surgery.

Kind regards, Dr Sarah Utting
