"Unacceptable failure "

About: The Glebe Family Practice

Failed to realise the patient was under the age of 18 and therefore could not take the test required to determine whether she was on the autistic spectrum. As a result, you have failed a student who will now not be able to receive the support she needs to receive a suitable education. This failure has singlehandedly ruined her chance at receiving support and I hope you all realise you have disrupted a young girls life permanently. Absolutely unacceptable.

This comment does not make sense. The computer system gives the age and date of birth for every registered patient. We do not do autism assessments for children, they are undertaken by the Children’s Therapy Team for primary school age and by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for secondary school age( via the Single Point of Access by self referral ). We are not solely responsible for ‘spotting’ autism , indeed it is not uncommon for autism to go unrecognised as features of autism may be masked or compensated for especially in those with high intelligence. Teachers and close family members are usually the first to suggest that a child may be on the spectrum and that assessment may be of benefit.

Whilst acknowledging the frustration the person contributing this comment we do not think it is reasonable. If the person would like to take the matter further in confidence we will arrange an appointment with the doctor concerned.
