"The level of communication"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was admitted to Wishaw and given 12 hourly steroids, they were not having the desired effect and it was decided he should come to GCH to see the specialist.

On arrival at ward 3B the level of communication is awful.

After being stuck in ward for 3 days he was looking forward to attending the cinema.  He asked at least 3 times about it and each time was told they’d get back to him. Finally 25 minutes after it had started we managed to find a nurse who informed me my son was in source and the required 3 negative stools before he could leave the room. I had to question this as he had negative stools from UHW but it took from 18.25 until 20.10 to come back and confirm that he did need to be in source. If things were dealt with in a timely manner he may have been able to attend the cinema and get a much needed boost.

I also had to ask the nursing stuff if my son was get his IV steroids that were due at 6pm, again finally was told at 20.10 that he would be getting them but not until 9pm.

Dear Lor81,

I am so sorry to hear you did not have a good experience within ward 3B, I have shared your feedback with the team. They will reflect on what you have told us and improve our communication in future.

I hope your son is feeling better,

Best wishes

Gael

Dear Lor81

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion.

I am really sorry that there were aspects of your son's care and experience that were not what we would expect them to be. We are really keen that we learn from these experiences in order that we can continue to improve and ensure that we get things right for every patient and family. If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to contact me at Pamela.mcgoldrick@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

I hope your son is doing better now and recovering from his recent illness
