"Such wonderful staff"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

My husband fell and we had to attend A & E. The Unit was fairly quiet when we arrived at 9.10am. He was triaged and sent to Xray. The department was quickly filling up with lots of people limping, due to falls and other reasons. Ambulances were starting to queue at lunchtime and yes, people were having a wait. We were seen by a Practitioner who explained my husband had broken his ankle. After hearing how he fell and an examination, he was sent for another Xray, unfortunately it was found to be broken in two places. A boot was placed on his foot to stabilise and a very detailed explanation was given.

We were told we had to see the Orthopedic Team as breaks like my husband had, sometimes needed surgery. We saw a Dr, and he explained he wanted another X ray to see if the fractures stayed stable when weight bearing.

More Xrays taken and the Dr explained that fortunately, my husband was ok to be discharged with ankle in boot.

We then saw the physio team who asked us if we needed help but we both thought we would manage. My husband is my carer. We left the Department at 4.30pm.

I have read so much bad press about Stepping Hill A&E on failing waiting times! It is distressing for people having to wait I am sure, but we waited for a purpose - we were constantly kept up to date by the staff who dealt with my husband. Everyone was so caring and took their time to make sure my husband was reassured.

Congratulations to all the fantastic staff who dealt with my husband. I doubt anyone got a break, or had time to have a drink, but these staff are amazing - leave them alone to do their jobs, without them worrying about times. They do a wonderful job.

Thank you

I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback and I am pleased to hear that your husband was able to be discharged once seen by the Medical team and had the necessary investigations. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with the team.

Regards
