"Told her she didn't need a sick line"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde New Stobhill Hospital / Respiratory Medicine NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

NHS 24 recognised 'red flags', went to Stobhill, experienced staff, treated professionally.

GP services however, I thought were neglectful; if it wasn't for the medical knowledge her family had, I believe she would be dead. She had creps etc in both lungs, a recent admission for sepsis, she has an auto immune condition. From having creps both lungs, has been nebulised. Had childhood asthma, which triggers as an adult.

I don't need just now to go into the multiple things that happened after that. A staff member in Clydebank Health Centre told her she didn't need a 'sick line' , that she would be fine on Monday.

My family will 'crawl' to work - gigantic, inherited work ethic.

No one can "recover from" a pneumonia, serious chest infection, or whatever you call it by Monday.

I felt that this person didn't care or perhaps does not have enough knowledge to deal with someone who is really sick.

I felt that they were dismissive and that she was at risk.

Dear bracebk37,

I am sorry to learn that your relative was unwell and had to contact 111. I can only imagine what a worrying time this will be especially as they have pre existing conditions. Thank you for taking the time to thank the staff involved in her care at NHS 24 and Stobhill.

The Care Opinion team has kindly tagged your story to NHS 24 as you mentioned a call to us on 111. I am pleased our staff recognised the severity of your relatives symptoms and arranged for her to attend hospital.

Thanks again for getting in touch and sharing your experience. I hope your relative recovers and feels better soon.

Best Wishes

Dawn

Dear Bracebk37

I am very sorry to hear about your family member’s experience at Clydebank Health Centre.

GP's are independent contractor and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns that someone has regarding their service. Can I suggest contacting the Practice Manager at Clydebank Health Centre to discuss your concerns? If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) can help. This service is free, confidential, independent of NHSGGC, and fully impartial. The telephone number is 0800 917 2127 and the website address is: www.patientadvicescotland.org.uk

I am pleased that the staff from NHS24 and Stobhill Minor Injuries Unit were experienced and professional.

I hope that your family member is feeling better.

Take Care

Nicole
