"My 1st visit at A&E"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

My doctor advised me to visit the A&E rather than go to the doctors .

Upon early arrival there was already a waiting list.

Waiting time was highlighted as 6 hours.

This was 8am.

I was in and out by 10am. Seen initially before 9am then a short wait until minor injuries opened for business at 9am.

The nurse was extremely helpful and explained clearly about my sport injury

and made a suggestion for medication to deal with the symptom and hopefully

the solution.

After consulting his superior I left with the prescribed medication and felt very fortunate that I did not require any further treatment.

In the calm daylight of the morning it does not reflect what I am sure was a hectic weekend in the A&E, with staff shortages and long hours.

Very grateful and appreciative of the NHS.

Dear GCU

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience when visiting A&E. I am delighted to read that you were happy with your care and that you were seen promptly in the minor injuries unit.

As you say there can be a number of pressures on A&E departments, however it is reassuring to hear that you were seen and treated effectively. Feedback is really important to us and your comments will be shared with the wider team. We appreciate you taking the time to share them. Thank you again.

I hope you are now recovering well.

Best Wishes

Lise
