When my wife unfortunately developed preeclampsia during her 36th week of pregnancy, we entered the care of the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy under the maternity unit.
Some background is that my wife and I have 2 children already aged 8 and 11. Our first child was a 24 hour failed natural birth, failed forceps, failed epidural and emergency general anesthesia birth. All extremely traumatic at the time and left quite the emotional scar on my wife and I regarding C-section deliveries.
When we arrived this time however, everything was taken care to have it explained to us what was going on when and timescales too, which were very important to us. Each of the staff from the different areas, (very much including the midwives in training) were nothing short of amazing in hand holding us through the process.
A few stand outs from the team were the anesthesiologist gentleman. In a busy and scary theatre with lots of pointy things and people you don't now, his humour and gentleness kept my wife calm and collected.
Our midwive Pip, was also amazing. Such a kind way about her and again went above and beyond in her role during delivery. Cheryl on the observation unit in the evenings supported my wife incredibly and gave her so much support to rest in a busy and unsure area.
I'd love to name all of the staff and auxiliary staff and give them the spotlight they deserve, they honestly have made our experience such a difference. My wife was kept for 6 days for blood pressure complications and every day the team showed up with absolute professionalism and a welcome nature. A credit to the NHS.
