When I first starting using STARS I was alcohol dependant with little hope of achieving any kind of normal life as it's been my 'friend' for so long, years and years. Destroyed my relationships, I've had anger issues and been to the bottom of the bottle and crawled out again. I've lost my daughter through drinking. So, you have to be ready to make change. It took time but my support worker Jas gave me a drinking diary, told me ways to reduce. At first it was hard, side effects and anxiety, being agitated without a drink. She recommended strategies, Breaking Free App is a good one, keeping busy. I refused to take any meds as didn't want to rely on something else to get sober, only I could do it. The support has been amazing, I describe my journey as being sat on top of a huge pile of empty wine bottles looking down, only me, no friends, no family. Through support and determination I've now been one month sober and it's such a better place to be. I'm getting my life back on track and hopefully building a positive relationship with myself and my daughter. Thank you STARS & Jas x
