"Deniged access to my appointment"

About: East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

Once again when attending a booked appointment (per arranged) no interpreter appeared. I am Deaf without speech and required signed communication.

Why do we have to keep missing our important appointments because of a failure to provide signed access.

Prior to this I was in hospital in Ashford for nearly two weeks following a serious accident and at NO TIME did I have access to any communication support via a BSL interpreter. That means that I never get the opportunity to ask full and important questions or indeed obtain the CLEAR advice that could stop me having these episodes.

Please Please Please improve access for Deaf BSL users.

Please note that this entry has been translated from BSL into English for your clear understanding as BSL is not the same as English. Surely I deserve the same....

Thank you Mr Stonestreet for contacting us regarding the lack of BSL interpreter at your recent appointment. We would like to look into this further for you and would ask that you contact the PALS Team (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at ekh-tr.pals@nhs.net , and we can take this forward for you. Alternatively, go to our website, www.ekhuft.nhs.uk and click the relevant "C" and complete the online form which is then sent to us.
