"My Sister going round in circles"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

In 2006 became very ill & was eventually diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. She has very bravely lived with this condition. In the last 15 months she has become extremely ill. Not the Myelitis. In this time her gall bladder has been removed to no avail of symptoms. She has been sent round what feels like almost every hospital dept. In doing so she to wait the allotted 12 week appointment slot then the 12 week waiting list for tests. When the consultant doesn't come up with anything she is referred on to someone & the waiting begins again. The last consultant was sending her to GYN after they couldn't find cause. She's been there 3 times I called a secretary to find out why & found out there is no referral to GYN on her notes. . All the while this is happening  she's in extreme pain whilst her body is falling apart. She can't eat, uses a catheter, bowel preps, her bmi 18 she's had 14 antibiotics this year alone many A& E visits. I spoke to our GP to ask what happens next & his reply was he just doesn't know. Well I'm sorry that's just not good enough! I think she will die if she catches a winter infection she has nothing left to fight it with. I will not let this happen whilst I have breath in my body. I hope someone can help.

Dear MsMac

I am sorry to hear the difficulties your sister has been having and seems no further forward.

I can see from your post how frustrated you are and want to get some answers for your sister.

I don’t want to go into a lot of detail here but I would ask you contact our Patient Affairs Team on 01698 366558 or myself on 01698 366157 directly so we can get some details about your sister and see how we can help.

With kind regards

Kim Brown

Update posted by MsMac (a relative)

Thank you for the reply. I'm very grateful. She ended up in Monklands A&E by ambulance yesterday with severe abdominal pain. Chest x-ray çlear. Sent home with more antibiotics for urine infection the doctor said she was sorry but she didn't know what else to do. She also said reading my sisters medical records is like reading that of an 80+ yr old. Also noted no referal on the system for gyn.
