"Surgery delays"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

I have now visited A&E twice in as many weeks with a strangulated hernia with pain similar to childbirth. Eventually after many hours they push the hernia back in and advise I will need surgery as it will continue to happen. I was advised to ring the general surgery secretary a couple of days after my latest visit to A&E to see where I was on the waiting list - I rang and was told I'm not even on the list. So it appears I will continue to have to repeatedly visit A&E every time my hernia returns taking up valuable hours of emergency staff time when all I require is a simple 30 minute operation. How is the either a) efficient for the NHS b) fair on all the other folk waiting in A&E c) fair on me to suffer ongoing needless pain repeatedly. One small operation and the burden is taken off A&E and the terrible pain removed from my life
