"My Best friend, My mum"

About: Market Quarter Medical Practice

(as a relative),

My mum died just under 5 months ago now. Since birth she had a fused vertebrae so has been on Amitriptyline and diazepam for 20 years. About 6 years ago she suffered from chronic back pain. Went to see here GP. She was prescribed opium based tablets, morphine, Ora morph etc. Over the past 6 years the pain has gotten worse with no effort to investigate. Instead they kept giving her higher doses.

My mum is no longer here. I have a huge hole in my heart. I do feel that the fault lies with the GP.  The amount she was taking, no reviews or mental health checks while on these tablets. Just given to repeat prescriptions and extras if needed, all she had to do was call.

I want people to hear my story I believe that women are commonly dying on a daily basis due to prescription medication. Your body cannot physically take this amount of pills for this long of a time. Not one person Tried to help!! Not one person said let’s have a review see what we can do.

I do feel that the the surgery and the GP are responsible.

I’m left wondering what I could have done, why my mum isn’t here. I’m an only child from an extremely small family. I am still in bits. I can not describe the pain. She died in late June  with no explanation. Until the beginning of November 2019 my dad got the call from the coroner of the toxicology. Tablet based.

My mum suffered from mental health not long after these tablets, she lost herself, she would stay in bed all day and be in a drug induced sleep, couldn’t talk properly as she was so intoxicated, Gained weight. Didn’t sleep properly. Always tired.

Please be aware of what prescription tablets can do especially when the person on the is vulnerable and In Chronic pain.

I will fight in her corner until I have justice for her.

Her pharmacy questioned her about her dose claiming it was too high.

I’m a broken mess, I’ve lost the woman who protected and cared and loved me before she’d even met me.
