"Doctor who was a hospital patient for the 1st time."

I had been getting chest pain and my GP Dr Mir promptly referred me to the Ambulatory Care Clinic at Ward 101, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. I normally work in the hospital as a doctor and that team are normally my colleagues but this was my first experience as a patient in the hospital setting. The assessment and care that I got from the team was first class and in particular I wish to thank Dr Dobb, Dr Close, Staff Nurse Katie and Healthcare Support Worker Mary as well as the portering and radiology staff. 

I ended up having an unexpected finding of a potentially serious condition in the form of a pulmonary embolism but was promptly started on the correct treatment for this.

Having never been a patient in this setting I now have a greater insight into how a patient must feel and that will hopefully help me to be a better doctor once I am well enough to return to work.

I've always felt privileged to work in the NHS and can now say that the NHS was there when I needed it to be. The GP and the Ward 101 team that day were a real credit to the NHS and are the reason that I am still here!
