"Physio has been consistently pleasant"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Physiotherapy

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Ward 20: The first memory of the physio team was friendly, had a can do attitude and were constantly reassuring me which made me feel supported. I appreciated that the physio team encouraged family to watch my treatments which made them feel involved and see first first hand how I was doing.

The team were doing their best to improve movement, with a good balance of being persistent and motivating. Without the team effort I wouldn’t be able to move like I am today. The physiotherapy team were not pushy and understand your limits. They would always give you break.

Impressions of physio have not changed, has been consistently pleasant. I liked hearing honest feedback after each sessions. I would encourage others in the room to engage as it’s beneficial, understandably it’s physically and mentally challenging but worth it.

The explanations of The purpose of physiotherapy (to rewire the signals from the brain) helped my own determination to improve. This explanation was simplified and easier to digest.

The nurses were brilliant, very attentive. I feel the the nurses do so much and do not get the recognition they deserve. The communication between the medical staff and others worked well.

Not being able to sleep, or being able to sleep on my left side has been a negative of my stay. The antibiotics I’ve been prescribed are making me feel nauseous and a metallic taste in mouth. Which often made me feel unmotivated to participate in physiotherapy. The way the physio team expresses themselves and their encouragement helped me stay motivated to always participate and have the ‘can do’ attitude.

When sitting in my wheelchair I would get uncomfortable and being unable to reposition myself. My wife asked for pillows or something to make me more comfortable but was told there wasn’t anything to help this. The mattress was uncomfortable. The nurse informed that I was only able to change the mattress if I had bed sores.

Dear UHMSTROKE03,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to feed back in relation to your treatment whilst in ward 20 at UHM.

The physiotherapy staff always endeavor to reassure and support patients at this difficult time and involve the family as much as possible and l am pleased that this was the case in relation to your experience.

It is often a challenging journey with regard to rehab but l am please to hear that the physiotherapy staffs motivating approach helped you on your way, enabling you to reach your potential.

It is always important for patients to know why they are being asked to participate in particular rehab approaches and it sounds like being well informed during your treatment sessions and receiving regular feed back helped you enormously.

Thanks again for your comments and l would like to wish you all the best for the future.

Regards

Karen Black
