"Derogatory, hostile treatment followed by..."

About: Lockswood Surgery

First let me be positive here, having access to the NHS is a privilege, and it is under strain, but I’m not personally convinced this was about that. The receptionist did not smile at’all at me, and as I tried to think clearly and be polite asking for a temporary patient appointment they did not listen to me. I informed them that I knew the process having been online, and that I knew my area was in the catchment. They didn’t know where my area was despite the map being placed behind them. I explained my scenario and they just seemed confused. I had done exactly this very recently with no problem. Then an equally unfriendly attitude came my way as again there was confusion. I repeatedly explained my scenario and basically I was going to be there more than 15 days, but they didn’t want to do it. They said it was unusual, but I explained I may not be here for much longer despite it being my permanent address. But let me be clear, we could have been talking about anything, because this was about the way I was being treated-in a derogatory manner. In summary first the non smile, then questioning my knowledge of the catchment in an equally unfriendly manner. Then I waited patiently telling myself it’s the NHS be patient, then when the other person was confused about my query they asked me to write some things down, and I insisted that I sit down to do this so I could just have some space for a second. This all happened in a moderately busy waiting room. And this is the main problem. For example if they had express their confusion with smiles, with I’m sorry but we don’t understand please can you help us, positive communication skills, then fine, but it wasn’t. They made me feel so uncomfortable with their confrontational manner.

Following this experience I was treated better later, but again they seemed to have extreme confusion despite me explaining myself endlessly. Lots of people have temporary registration anytime, but it wasn’t about that, they had a bad attitude towards me from the start and it didn’t stop. What exactly the reason was for that I don’t know, but I was so patient and polite as I waited and noticed the hostility rise until I had to explain that I felt they were treating me in a strange way. It was so confrontational and this is a breach of trust. You can’t go into a doctors and be treated in a derogatory manner in front of others. Basic customer service is that you smile even when under pressure.
