I recently had the misfortune of having to visit the A and E department at Airedale hospital. My journey started with a visit to the triage nurse who’s job is to asses the patient and then direct them to the correct department she was as useful as a chocolate fire guard all I needed was a bit of glue to stick a cut back together again but the nurse told me I would have to wait for a doctor. This was not only time consuming namely 5 hours but a complete waste of NHS resources as I think the triage nurse should be able to carry out the bare minimum treatment ie bandages, stitches and small procedures instead of sitting at a desk and telling patients they need to see a doctor, which most people who have injured themselves are fully aware hence why they are at the hospital. The NHS is already stretched to a limit without extra work being put on to the doctors. My suggestion would be to have someone on the frontline who can do the basics and save time and money for both patients and NHS staff
