"Disrecspectful Attitude"

About: South Birmingham Urgent Treatment Centre

I understand that Katie Road is a walk in clinic and you have to be prepared to wait to be seen but the waiting conditions are inexcusable. Yesterday I had to wait 2hours and I understand there were a lot of ill patients before me that is not the issue. However The room was hot and very very smelly, for sick patients to have to wait in a hot smelly room where there is no ventilation I feel is not appropriate. There are no windows or natural ventilation in the waiting room and if you did not enter with an air-born virus you have every chance of leaving with one. Please can the Estates or Health & Safety manager visit the clinic to sensibly assess the risk and environmental conditions of the waiting room

However the main premise of my complaint centres on after I was called into to see the GP.

I was called in to Room 3 I believe by a doctor who introduced himself and then began enquire as to my ailment.

Then the Dr’s mobile phone began to ring and he picked it up saying “sorry I need to take this”. He then proceeded to carry out the telephone call for approximately 7-8 minutes discussing with the caller all about an interview he had missed and how he needed to attend the next one.

At no point did the Dr tell the caller “I am sorry I am currently with a patient and will have to call you back” instead he just continued to make future interview plans with the caller whilst I sat in the same room listening to the call.

I felt humiliated and ignored and feel the Dr had a very unprofessional and disrespectful attitude towards me his patient whom he was being paid for by the NHS to treat and instead he was conducting his personal life in front of me.

When he came off the phone, I felt then that the Dr did not then have my best interest at heart and was not really tuned into my care needs.

I would like to speak to someone about this unprofessional attitude of the Doctor

If I have the right NHS trust I read that the top 3 values for the trust areas below:-

I will… make you feel welcome

I will… make time to listen to you

I will… be polite, courteous and respectful

I do not feel these values were addressed in the treatment I received yesterday
