(as a parent/guardian),

My child broke her tibia and came into A&E. She was sent to X-ray and despite advising the radiographer of her anxiety and pain, I felt the the radiographer did not engage my daughter in the process of scanning and instead positioned her legs without explanation, which lead to my daughter being exceptionally distressed

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch and for bringing this to our attention.

I am very sorry to hear about your daughter breaking her tibia and her experience in x-ray, with the Radiographer not engaging with your daughter leading to her becoming distressed.

This is not the care we would expect from the Radiographers and I can only apologise for your daughters distressing experience in x-ray. Your feedback allows us to work with staff to improve the service provided.

If you were able to share further details by contacting me by email at sandrarobertson@nhs.net, this would enable me to discuss you and your daughters experience with the individual Radiographer involved and allow them to reflect on their care during your daughters x-ray and the importance of communication with their patients going forward.

I will however share this with all the Radiographers to reinforce the importance of their role in making the experience as comfortable and stress free as possible.

I hope your daughter’s tibia heals well and any further x-rays required will be a more pleasant experience.
