I am writing this review to express my gratitude to all the Nursing and care staff on the Ward during my Mums stay there after a fall and subsequent hip op. The individualised care that she receive there was second to none and I feel that this has to be recognised. The Sister and all her team on the ward do their job exceptionally well and on observation, often go above and beyond to deliver a outstanding service. They are a credit to their profession and the NHS. I cant thank or express my gratitude to them enough.
HoweverMum 83, who was mobile before her fall , was moved from QEUH to a Gartnavel Ward for Orthopedic rehabilitation after her Op. I was told, by the QEUH that she would receive intensive physiotherapy on this ward with the aim of getting mobile. There were only 2 physiotherapists on this ward.
This in itself is absolutely astounding. 2 Physiotherapists cannot, In my opinion, no matter how hard they try, successfully rehabilitate so many elderly Orthopedic patients. Some of which. like mum, have cognitive impairment. Firstly, there's not enough Physiotherapists on the Ward and secondly there is not enough time spent working with them. As a result of, what i would consider lack of staff and in particular physiotherapists Mum was discharged after 8 weeks, immobile, to a care home and with no referral for community physio.
"Not enough physiotherapists and not enough time"
