"What a waste of time!"

About: Practice Plus

Called 111 after being up most of the night with severe toothache, in a tooth that I'm undergoing root canal treatment on. It had got worse over the week, my dentist had given me antibiotics and told me to give the antibiotics chance to work on a previous visit with pain and swelling.

By the weekend I was crying with pain, unable to eat or sleep properly, hence my phone call to 111.

First of all I was scolded for not getting in touch with my own dentist on the Friday, I explained what my dentist had said but the pain had now become severe and that the advice on out of hours was to ring them to get an emergency appointment.

She advised me to watch for things getting worse, struggling to breathe, seizures etc, then offered an appointment one hour away from my location, I asked if there was anything nearer as I couldn't get there and she said no they were all booked up. I said I'm talking maximum painkillers with no effect I'm desperate I can't go through another night like that. She told me to go see my chemist I said what can he possibly do for me I'm taking antibiotics and maximum painkillers he will probably just tell me to see a dentist!

I ended the conversation there as it dawned on me that it was a waste of my time and said I would struggle for another day and night and see my own dentist on Monday morning.

She did say sorry, but what the hell??
