"Dedicated Professional Treatment"

About: Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

My wife and I are writing this short review to thank the Trust Staff for the excellent and rapid treatment that my wife received to treat high potassium level in her blood and subsequently atrial fibrillation. High potassium was detected a few days before last Christmas after a routine blood sample was taken at the North Beverley Medical Centre. That evening my wife was phoned to attend Hull Royal Infirmary A&E immediately where an overnight stay was required to lower the potassium content of her blood.

While visiting the North Beverley Medical Centre again on January 11th to check whether it was safe for her to fly to Spain, she complained of chest palpitations. The Locum GP arranged an immediate ECG which revealed that she had an irregular heart rhythm. She was advised not to fly. While awaiting treatment, her

condition deteriorated and an emergency evacuation by ambulance was required on Sunday February 17th to

Hull Royal at 4.00 am. The ambulance staff had to carry her down the four flights of stairs in our house which was physically demanding. We were most impressed by the prompt personal care given by the on-duty doctors at Hull Royal Hospital and the assistance from one of the A&E reception staff who took me to the

correct ward to see my wife at around 6 am.

My wife was transferred by ambulance to Castle Hill Hospital Ward 26 at 11 am on the same day. Again, the treatment and care were excellent. We would like to give particular thanks to her cardiac consultant and ward nurse. The nurse worked out a method of stabilising my wife’s blood potassium and magnesium

levels to enable a prompt cardio-version to be undertaken on the following day.

Finally, we would like to thank our GP for immediately prescribing my wife’s medication on discharge from hospital. We continue to be impressed by the standard of care she received from all of you. We are thankful for your dedicated professionalism.
