I was referred to the Victoria hospital, Kirkcaldy via my doctor as I had an infection in my right leg and was in extreme pain. The doctor at Victoria hospital checked my leg, and informed me it was cellulitis. He put me straight on IV antibiotics and asked a nurse to take my bloods. The blood results came back and I was informed that my bloood was highly infected.
I was also sent for an CT scan to check the extent of the damage. Two days on the Iv antibiotics an abscess began to form on my leg and I was told by the doctor that the best way to clear the infection would to be to put to sleep and undergo surgery to clear the pus from my leg. The anethestist explained the procedure and really put my mind at ease as I had never had an operation before. Thankfully all went well and I spent a further 5 days in ward 33. The nurses were fantastic and really attentive. Their care and banter really cheered me up at a time when I was very scared, anxious and unwell and they were always happy to answer any questions or queries I had about my leg / condition and were very reassuring.
I couldn't speak more highly of the care I received whilst on ward 33, the doctors acted swiftly and effectively to treat my condition asap, the nurses were amazing, and the porters were also really friendly and kind - thank you - not all heros wear capes :)
