"Autism Diagnosis"

About: Fife Community Services / Children's Community Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has been in the system for getting a diagnosis for austim since he was nursery age he is now primary 6. We feel we have been passed from pillar to post with pretty much every department that has any involvement. All we keep getting told is he is a complex case surely if he is so complex that alone would show there is some under lying problem. His primary school has tried to help in any possible way they can, giving him help at school to even writing letters to the department's ie paediatric, fast team and psychology and they are told pretty much to butt out.

We are now starting to feel as a family we are let down by the total system and That the nhs is not taking on board these concerns from families at all.

Thank you for your comments on Care Opinion about your young son. We are genuinely sorry to hear that you feel the NHS is not responding to your concerns, especially as you mention that you have seen multiple NHS professionals who have tried to assess the nature of your sons difficulties. It's not easy to comment on individual anonymous cases but we do work alongside education and other child services to provide a multi-agency approach. We would be more than happy to discuss further if you were to get in touch directly with child autism services.

Hi, if you email the Autism generic email address with the details, we will ensure this is passed to the clinician to respond. The generic address is: Fife-UHB.aapreferrals@nhs.net

Many thanks, Mary
