My husband has both cancer and Parkinson's disease. He is currently receiving weekly chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden hospital. After treatment and returning home in September within a short space of time his temperature had shot up to 39 degrees and he was very confused and feeling ill. This happens with chemo sometimes, I know, but it is scary. I rang the Royal Marsden hotline and they advised a speedy journey to East Surrey A&E. I was worried. The Marsden team knows his case well and I was scared about starting all over again with another team. I need not have given it a second thought and would never worry again...
The ambulance arrived within eight minutes and the crew was reassuring, helpful and obviously expert. By this time my husband's temperature had risen to 40 degrees. On arrival at East Surrey Hospital we were taken straight to Resus where a doctor and nurse were awaiting. I wish I could remember the name of the doctor but the nurse was Belinda and she was absolutely brilliant in every way...as was the doctor. The team responded urgently with all the emergency care my husband needed and could have wanted and we are both so grateful. And we were equally grateful following his transfer to Majors while the team tested bloods and checked x rays to diagnose the cause of the problem. Ken, Fabio and Martin nursed him with care, expertise and compassion as did others in the team. Again the doctors we met were superb,
A further transfer to AMU once his extreme symptoms had balanced and he was returning to what is, for him, normal health led us to meet Geo and a fabulous lady who Geo was training but whose name I forget, for which I am sorry. I will never forget all that she and Geo did for us both, however. Incredible dedication and caring.
I just want to say that every doctor, every nurse and health care assistant who was involved in caring for my husband that night was absolutely wonderful in every way, as was the ambulance crew. I want to say how humble it made me feel and to say I can never express my thanks adequately. Thank you all, so very, very much. Our wonderful NHS is under so much pressure but this was NHS care at its finest. Bless each and every one of you.
