"Very dissatisfying experience"

About: Kingston Hospital

I was referred to Kingston Hospital for mammography because I have a lump on my breast and was very unhappy the way I was treated. Upon my arrival, I was told I will have 3 tests in the next few hours: mammography, ultrasound and biopsy. I was quite surprised and told them I only came in to have a mammography and wasn't planning to stay at the hospital for another 4 hours. I've also told them I do not require a biopsy and refused to have one. They wouldn't take a "NO" for an answer!

After mammography and ultrasound, a specialist confirmed I have a 2.5 x 1.8 cm lump filled with liquid on my left breast. She also told me she is worried this might be a cancer and urged me to have a biopsy. I refused on the grounds of "worried"!!!

She than told me they are not sure, so they have to do a biopsy to confirm. "You see there is a tick core around it, so we have to check it!" she said.

To be honest, if they don't know what it is, why is she worried? Surely, they have successfully treated thousands of patients, so why speculating it is a cancer and not a cyst?

I was expecting them to be more positive about giving diagnosis and more concerned about their patient well being. After all, I know it's a lump I can fill it and it's very painful. I didn't come to hospital specialist, so it can be measured in size via mammography!

Second of all, when they've told me it might be a cancer: shock, horror, my life flashed in front of my eyes - 'OMG am I going to die!" But hold on, how come they are not speculating it is a cyst, if they are unsure?!?

Unprofessional beyond the limits! They didn't even ask me how am I feeling. They didn't even consider how to gently break the news to me or advise me on how thousands of women have successfully treated cancer or cysts!

When I asked to see the mammography images, they've refused to show it me and told me I can not have access to them. When I refused to have a biopsy, they've deliberately tried to convinced me to have one and offered me no other option. When I asked for alternative checkup, such as MRI, ECG, Ph test and so on, they've deliberately declined. When I asked for a next step treatment advice, a specialist told me to look at the cancer website for further information!

Thank you Kingston Hospital, but I do not want to be your lab rat! I've been in severe pain and I've had a sharp intense chest and heart pains for the last two months, and you haven't given me any diagnosis or treatments what so ever!!!
