"Delay for Gall Bladder removal"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / General surgery

(as a service user),

I was fast tracked by my GP to DRI suffering severe abdominal pain at 8.30 am. I immediately got an appointment for the afternoon to go to a General Surgery Admissions ward where I was treated quickly and properly diagnosed by scan to have Gall Bladder Stones, suffice to say I was in great pain. I was given strong pain killers and told I would probably come back for a pre med in a couple of weeks  This treatment confirmed my many first class previous experiences with other hospitals.

So went home pleased with the response.

A few days later I received a text to say I should attend Out Patients late in November. That is 8 weeks away not a couple as stated. The appointment message just gave a staff member name - I do not know who the are or what position they have.  There were no clues on the text. Apparently my husband found out that it is to see a consultant, and I am to have a consultation, rather than a premed as intimated. The waiting list is 10-16 weeks + 8 for the unrequired delay. So that will be 6 months of terrible pain.

Thus DRI has destroyed my previous excellent opinion of the NHS.
