"Improvements required"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / General surgery

Our recent experience of this hospital has been mixed. There are some very caring, supportive and knowledgeable staff and some who lack the basic skills required for such a profession showing little empathy or understanding of ‘nursing’.

The hospital is very dated but clean.

Communication between staff and next of kin is poor. We found it very difficult to speak to a doctor and impossible to speak to the consultant (even their secretary couldn’t contact them).

Waiting for consultants to confirm surgery dates and times took an age only to be cancelled on two occasions which led to anxiety and undue stress. Infection after infection caught in the hospital.

Some staff work very long hours, some working a 14 hour shift. Our experience and opinion of this hospital is mixed. I would need to see vast improvements and a better standard of care before I could recommend this hospital.

Our staff work very hard striving to provide patients with excellent care and experience so we would like to apologise that your experience didn't meet your expectations.
