"Generally not happy with consultant"

About: The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

I understand that you will not publish the name if my husbands consultant .

He was diagnosed prostate cancer three years ago and had excellent radiotherapy treatment in North Wales in early 2017 .

After moving to Leigh late 2017 was fine fir 6 months when cancer spread to bones .

At this point Sept 2018 was referred to a doctor who we saw initially at Salford hospital . She dud nit prescribe anything other than continue hormone treatment .

Another appointment December 2018 when my husband could hardly walk with pain ( we now know this was cancer in bones causing pain ). The doctor said it was muscular ! She prescribed steroids . Two days after thus appointment he was rushed into Wigan Hospital suspected fracture .

Thankfully he was treated after being admitted for a week . He was fitted with a back brace for support .

Next appointment with the doctor end of March by which time he was in Salford hospital having a spinal, operation fir fracture in back . Hospital treatment as in patient I have no complaints . At every out patient appointment at Thomas Linacre at Wigan ( sometimes just seeing registrar) We never felt any confidence in the doctor , poor empathy , little explanation of symptoms or treatment and very disappointed generally . My husband had a fall at home early this month and despite treatment again in Wigan hospital which I have no complaints about at all, he passed away there on 11 September . During all his stays in hospital we NEVER saw his doctor and when we saw her after his spinal surgery at Salford in March ( 5 weeks in hospital ) she didn’t even know anything about it ( had no report to hand other than the information I gave her ) Is this continuity of care ? I think not . I am only grateful we had care at home from Wigan and Leigh hospice, district nurses etc who could not have been kinder . No one can take away the devastation of cancer , the pain, the loss of dignity, immobility etc but compassion goes a long way fir patients and just because a doctor has reached consultant level that compassion and care of patients and their families should never be compromised in my opinion .
