"My life saver"

About: St Lukes Hospice

(as a service user),

I had breast cancer. Had surgery and chemotherapy and lost all my hair. I was devastated.   Could not wear a wig. I recall once when I did wear a wig the wind blew it out.   I was then diagnosed with brain cancer and had tumours removed. I was left paralysed on my left side. Had speech therapy and physio therapy. I had to learn life skills again.   I was then diagnosed with spinal cancer,   The hospital suggested I come to the hospice.   I had a lot going on.   I love the hospice it saved my life. Made me realise I was not the only person going through this.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of St Luke's Hospice with Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear that you have gone through a particularly difficult time. From your words it sounds like with the support of physiotherapy and speech therapy you have worked hard to learn some life skills. The team at St Luke's Hospice recognise that for some people living with an incurable illness the impact and burden of the illness and treatments can affect their ability to do day to day activities. We hope that for you coming to the hospice has helped to support you with the 'rehabilitation' work you had already started and has helped to enhance your quality of life. Promoting independence and confidence in patients is one of the many values and priorities of the St Luke's Hospice team. We do this by bringing together all our skills and expertise working collaboratively to ensure the patient is central to our discussions and decision making. I will pass your comments on to the team.
