"Emergency Gynaecology Unit"

About: St Mary's Hospital / Gynaecology

I have (unfortunately!) visited the EGU many times across 3 pregnancies.

Sadly 2 ended in miscarriages but throughout both I was treated with the utmost kindness and respect by the EGU staff.

My current pregnancy is (touch wood!) still progressing but I have had two incidences of bleeding and also some concerns following a traffic accident.

On these occasions I visited the EGU where staff continued to be dedicated in their desire to help and support me and give me what reassurance they could.

I have so much respect for the job that they all do, and the compassion shown at all times.

It cannot be easy seeing women in such a state of distress and sometimes being able to offer no more reassurance than "wait and see" but I really appreciated their honesty and the fact that they were kind and helpful without offering platitudes or false hope.

I cannot speak more highly of this service - Manchester's women are so lucky to have a 24 hour service in their time of need.

After a 6 hour journey back from Scotland on a Sunday where the nearest hospital's EGU was only open 9-4 on weekdays I certainly felt grateful!

I would like to thank all the staff in the EGU (as I think I have met most of them over the last 2 years!) for the amazing and difficult job they do, and for their kindness and compassion shown to myself and my husband.

Thank you for your positive comments posted on the NHS website regarding your care on the Emergency Gynaecology Unit (EGU) at Saint Mary’s Hospital. It was very kind of you to take the time to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff.

The Trust has introduced a Behavioural framework called ‘Together Care Matters’ within which all members of the nursing and medical teams practice so it was reassuring to read that the Nursing and medical teams providing care were able to make you feel supported, cared for and reassured at such a difficult time. I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to Dr Rohna Kearney, Clinical Head of Division for Gynaecology and Mrs Angela Williams, Lead Nurse for Gynaecology who will be pleased to share your feedback with Sister Liz Malone Ward Manager for EGU and the extended team.

Mrs Karen Connolly

Chief Executive Officer Saint Mary’s Hospital Managed Clinical Services.
