"Supportive and compassionate"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I managed to make my way 12 weeks pregnant, cramping and bleeding heavily to the Rubishlaw ward while my poor husband desperately tried to park the car.   As soon as I walked through the doors of the ward the nurse at reception desk came right to me and held me up -   when she called for help while I was struggling to walk a nurse who had only just come on shift was there in seconds.   The next few hours went by in a blur,   with so many staff around me it was a very scary time.   I sadly miscarried our baby. This was my 3rd experience in the ward and 2nd miscarriage but the team in that night were unbelievably kind, caring, supportive and compassionate.   They looked after not only me but my poor husband as well who could only sit by in shock at everything that was going on. These ladies do a job that not many would do and have to so often deal with difficult situation and very emotions times of lost hope and future.   They held me up when I couldn’t do it for myself and made me feel like I could do what I needed to do and there were there to help arm outstretched.   I will never forget what those ladies did for me and my family at an extremely heartbreaking and scary time.   Thank you does not even come close.

Dear Millieb,

Thank you for getting in touch, especially in such difficult circumstances, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

The staff in Rubislaw work extremely hard to make sure the women in their care are treated with respect and dignity and the care they provide is kind, supportive and compassionate.

As you point out they are often dealing with very difficult and emotional situations but it is testament to them as individuals and how the work together as a team that they receive feedback as lovely as this.

I will ensure this is passed on to them.

May I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kindest Regards

Liz
