"Brain tumour surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurology University Hospital Wishaw / Neurology

(as a relative),

My husband has been diagnosed with a 3. 5cm Acoustic Neuroma on the right side. Consultants have advised surgery is the only option which was scheduled for next week. However, after receiving two injections in his ear drum to begin the deterioration of the balance nerve as well as attending his pre op assessment, the surgeon’s secretary has called today to tell him his surgery has been cancelled with absolutely no indication of what will happen now. This is absolutely unacceptable as he has arranged with his work to be off for 3-6 months due to his recovery. We have 2 young children to accommodate so family members have taken time off their own work to help us out and I have my own work commitments that had been arranged around his recovery so I could still be around to be his main carer. There has been absolutely no information given to us and my husband is deeply upset by this, especially given he is walking around with a golf ball sized tumour in his head and no indication as to when it will be removed!

Dear SOR

Thank you for getting in touch with us. I am very sorry to hear of your recent experience.

Neurology services within NHS Lanarkshire are operated by medical staff employed by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (GG&C). Neurosurgical procedures are centralised for the West of Scotland within GG&C and all surgery is therefore carried out at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Due to this I am unfortunately unable to give further information in relation to why your husbands surgery was cancelled. I would be very happy to speak to my colleagues in GG&C and gain further understanding of this and assist in any way that I can, please get in touch with me to give me further details as it is not appropriate to post personal details on the Care Opinion forum.

My direct number is 01355 584160.

Many Thanks
