My feedback is about the hospital outpatient appointment system at Lanarkshire Hospitals for the audiology department.
My GP says I need to be seen by them and also need an ENT (ear, nose & throat) appointment.
I have various medical issues anyway which means sometimes without warning I am bed bound, this creates issues about attending outpatient appointments.
I do attend a clinic at Gartnavel Hospital and they're fine, they know me and my issues and give me no hassle about it - if I can't attend they work with me and find me another appointment.
My issue is with the Lanarkshire Health Board, I have been bed bound and missed two appointments and have been passed all round the houses to get back on track. I was told by one department that they could not access my records and there is nothing on file about my issues with attending sometimes. I went through four departments before I could get them to say I hadn't been removed from the list and to get another appointment. It was frustrating and made me angry. I know what my problems are and how it affects me - they don't want to listen, I feel like it's pure bureaucracy, I'm fuming.
I am now at the point that yes I do have an appointment, my issue is - what if I am having a really bad day. I would have to get the ambulance service out for two guys to come and actually physically carry me out to the hospital but I don't want that. If I am having a reasonable day I can get there myself but I can't guarantee what day I will be having. My concern is also that I might not need the ambulance and two staff - I might be able to make it under my own steam but if I can't will I be off the list yet again. There is no understanding for my issues and they are not taken into consideration. Just find it all so frustrating.
