"Data protection issues"

About: Broadgreen Hospital

I had reason to visit this department recently in support of my mum.

Her medical issue was dealt with very efficiently by the medical staff and waiting was kept to a minimum. Staff were friendly and pleasant.

I have one concern however, the check in process. On arrival, despite most people handing the reception staff their appointment letter, every one was asked to confirm their name, DOB and Address, all within earshot of other waiting patients.

Whilst I accept there must be a justifiable reason for staff to request this information (despite the presentation of an appointment letter) I am concerned that personal information is obtained in earshot of others.

Not only do I feel this a potential breach of Data Protection I also feel its very undignified and I could clearly see the discomfort on many peoples faces when having to give this information with others able to listen in.
