"Time to receive MRI and poor care"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My husband was admitted to A& E at the Victoria hospital Blackpool on a Monday at the beginning of July late afternoon. Seen by doctor and then waited on a chair till 11am next day. I appreciate and understand the pressures in our NHS and A& E but this timescale is unacceptable.

Admitted to AMU where he received no food or water until I asked. Basic care was sub standard. Informed that emergency   MRI required and could take up to 48 hours. No MRI carried out and discharged home. No communication regarding date /Time for MRI until I contacted MRI department. Given a date for a MRI but sadly my husband passed away a few days prior.

Feel let down by the NHS.

Firstly please may I pass on my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband. I can only imagine the pain you and your family must be suffering right now. I am grateful that you have shared your experience of our services at such a difficult time, so that I can look into this further and offer some clarity around the events which happened.

I was sorry to read this story and learn the errors which were made both during and after his stay in Hospital. This needs to be investigated further, please can you contact our team on 01253 955588 or email bfwh.complaints@nhs.net.

Kind regards

Eleanor
