Following from me suffering from neck pain for several weeks, I finally managed to get a suitable appointment to see the doctor, which resulted me going for an x-ray of my next. I managed to get an appointment after two weeks to see a GP to discuss my x-ray results.

While looking at my results the GP mentioned that I had high blood pressure showing, I was concerned and I ask the GP if they could check my blood pressure, while I was there.

Their response was no you will need to make another appointment to check your blood pressure or go to a pharmacy and have it checked there. I was so disappointed to hear a GP responding to a simple request that would have taken them just 2 mins or less to just check me out there. So I went to pharmacy and they had no one to check me and they also charge as well, I went to retail shop medical dept but they do not do it there. So is it right to be sent away to wait for another 2 weeks for another appointment to check my blood pressure, which would have taken this GP not long to check me to see if my blood pressure was high or not? So disappointing.

Dear patient,

I am sorry you had a poor experience during the consultation. However we have multiple facilities for having blood pressure check on the spot. I am sorry we were not able to inform you of the same. 1. We have a self service kiosk called "Surgery Pod" where you can just turn up and using a touch screen enter a lot of your health information yourself and get you BP check, Weight check etc without having the need to wait for an appointment. However our staff are there to help and guide you if you need help using the surgery pod. 2. We are relentlessly training our staff to gain additional skills and as a result three of our reception staff are also trained HCAs (Health Care Assistant) and they can check your blood pressure at any time in between their other tasks. 3. We have bookable Nurse appointments for blood pressure check. I am sorry we did not inform you of these facilities on the day however the doctors do normally deal with only one problem during a consultation so as to deal with the problem properly and also to run on time for the convenience of other patients. inspite of this you should have had the blood pressure check on that day and I am sorry we could not make you aware of the various ways of getting blood pressure check on the spot.
