"chaotic and unhelpful"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital / Accident and emergency

GP advised attendance at GP Out of Hours unit as no appointments at the surgery. Unhelpful triage by the OOH unit who spoke to me as if I hadn’t been bothered to go to the GP etc then suggested if it had been them in my situation they would have gone to A&E; a little rude and made me feel like I was wasting their time. Anyway once at the GP OOH unit they were actually very nice & helpful but unable to resolve our issue. I was accompanying my partner who had been unwell for 4 days. We were referred over to A&E for further support but our experience was very poor. We understood they were busy and we weren’t surprised to be around. But after 2 hours in a bay we were consulted by a Dr in the corridor - no privacy. The Dr spoke a mumbly question or 2 then walked off with no real communication. To be honest we weren’t sure he was actually a Dr as no ID badge & appeared quite unkempt, disheveled and didn’t appear to speak with any real knowledge or direction. The medical notes went missing as he walked off with them resulting in having to keep reiterating accounts of the history of the problem 5 more times. Bloods were taken but we weren’t told what for. No examination took place at all! The Dr came to see us to tell us a scan was required another Dr came to say he wasn’t sure if it had been ordered and 2 bank nurses kept popping in & out of the room we were eventually moved to looking busy doing very little. I was very surprised that they had very long painted nails/ false nails: one had glittery nail polish & a large jewelled ring. Lots of jewellery & long messy hair. No one seemed able to answer our questions & didn’t seem bothered to find anything out.

No explanation of the plan or what was happening and not once offered a drink or pain relief ( there for 5 hours). Pretty poor as presenting with crippling unbearable headache/ neck pain! Scan & bloods clear but when I asked if they would be doing anything about the pain I was told quite abruptly we would need to go to GP as this was and emergency department & they weren’t worried as no tumour and no bleed. So we were sent home with antibiotics for what they described as an unrelated Sinus infection. We were sent home with unresolved pain and no idea of the issue causing this. . We did receive some kindness towards the end of our visit from a HCA but the Doctors, and senior staff had awful attitudes. We were told by the discharging Dr that he was going to provide some pain relief then sent the bank nurse to give us antibiotics and nothing else.. We asked about the pain relief but this couldn’t be explained. The ironic thing is the whole reason for our visit was for help for the unbearable pain! Its now 1 week since this started & my partner is still suffering but reluctant to act as we were made to feel like we shouldn’t have bothered them. The whole experience was most unpleasant and unhelpful. As a health professional I found it really disappointing and the chaos and unhelpful attitudes worry me
