"Orthopaedic Experience"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Trauma and Orthopaedics

I visited the orthopaedic clinic recently as I had an appointment with a consultant.

The waiting room was full and hot as it was mid summer. Despite the obvious pressure that staff were under, they were all very approachable and did their best to help with queries from people in the waiting room. I asked how long the wait would be and, with a smile and

'no problem' approach, someone went to find out how many more people were in front of me.

I asked if I could be seen by the same doctor who I saw last time for continuity.

Staff sorted this out and sure enough I saw the same consultant.

My consultation was a two way discussion about my condition and the options available.

I felt that the decision was very much a joint process and not a "done to" approach.

The consultant always comes across as an approachable person who treats his patients as equals.

I feel very confident in his abilities to carry out my surgery and I am looking forward to having my operation and being able to move on afterwards with rehabilitation.

After seeing the consultant, I was passed over to the nursing staff who did routine pre op height, weight and BMI calculation.

This female member of staff (a health care assistant I think) was also very kind, approachable and professional.

My experience of the N&N orthopaedic department has been nothing but positive and I would definitely recommend this hospital for orthopaedic treatment to others.
