"Arrogance of doctor"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Elderly Medicine (wards 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3c, 4c, 5c, 6a, 8a & 8c) Gartnavel General Hospital / Respiratory Medicine

(as a relative),

My father had a chest infection and I asked the nursing staff for a review by the doctor as he was particularly unwell and becoming confused. The doctor arrived at 850 pm in outdoor clothes and glancing at the clock in the wall announced that they were going off duty at 9 pm and that they could give us ten minutes . We felt the doctor barely listened and as with all the doctors we seemed to come in contact with, announced that they did not normally work on that ward and did not know my father .

The doctor barely listened to my concerns re my father and did not examine him . I was shocked at this doctor's level of arrogance .

This behaviour is not acceptable and I feel shows complete disdain for the elderly who are due much more than this and it costs nothing to be polite . I have grave concerns re this doctors ability to be in the “ caring profession “ I am deeply saddened for my elderly father to be treated in such a manner

Dear Livid 89

I am very disappointed to read your post on Care Opinion about your Fathers’ interaction with the doctor. Our patients should always be treated with dignity, respect and compassion and I completely understand why you feel deeply saddened. Please accept my apologies for the additional distress and upset.

I have already shared your post with the General Manager and the ward team. We would like the opportunity to look into this further and I would be grateful if you could contact me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk With your Father’s permission, could you please include your Father’s name and date of birth?

Please pass on my sincere apologies to your Father.

Many thanks

Nicole
