"Being given the wrong information"

About: Outpatients / Women's Day Clinic

(as the patient),

At the  end of july i had an appointment for a ct scan which i attended. Once the scan had been done i was informed by the staff that i should make an appointment to see my own doctor to get the results of scan. 2days later i received a text message to say i was to attend an appointment made for me at a clinic. I on the advice from my daughter phoned the number in the txt message to see what clinic i was to attend as all the text was to say i had an appointment on 2/8/19. I phoned to find it was the womans health clinic and was told it was to get the results of my ct scan. So that was more misinformation i had been given when i asked what the appointment was for.

My daughter phoned my gp to find out what was happening and even he said it would be to get results of ct scan and find out what if any treatment could be offered. So off myself and my daughter went to the clinic once we got there we didnt have to wait long before we were taken through to see the doctor. He was very nice but slightly difficult to understand so it was a good job i had my daughter with me. He after speaking to me for a short time asked if they (the doctor and a trainee) could examine me. I went behind the curtain where i was told to remove my lower half clothing by the nurse. The doctor then felt around my abdomen and lower down to the pelvic area to see if he could feel the cyst that is seemingly quite a large one. As i was tender in that area anyway he then asked if he could do an internal examination which i declined as 1 i have a catheter and 2 i was very sore in that area. However the doctor was polite and said it didnt matter. My complaint is that all of the above took place at a clinic that i was told would be giving me the results of my ct scan only.

I feel i was mislead by staff as 1 lot said my doctor would give me the results and 2 i wasnt even told that i may have to have an examination while at the clinic.

Dear BarberJohn

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Women's Health Clinic on Care Opinion. You must have been surprised when you received a text from the clinic co-ordinator to attend an appointment when you were previously advised to make an appointment to see your GP.

I am sorry to hear you were not given adequate information regarding what would happen at your appointment at the Women's Health Clinic. I apologise that while you believed you were going to receive the results of your CT scan, and find out what treatment could be offered, you did not expect to be asked to undress and undergo an examination of your abdomen and pelvic area,.

If you would like me to look into this further please contact me directly

Kind Regards

Margaret Meredith
