"Terrible service all around. Made to feel..."

About: Pembroke Medical Group

I've been a member of the surgery since I moved to Torbay in 2004 and too be perfectly honest the service is dire, the reception staff are incredibly rude and most of the doctors I've dealt with have been mostly unhelpful. The only staff I've ever had a positive and polite/cheerful experience with are the nurses when having my blood taken. Getting an appointment is like trying to pull teeth. You have to have a telephone integration with the reception staff telling them all your private information to then have to sit around waiting for hours on end for a doctor to eventually call you back (and sometimes they have even forgotten) for them to ultimately decide whether it's necessary for you to have a face to face appointment. Several days ago I found a painful lump on my testicle. I contacted the surgery to request a face to face appointment explaining I'd contacted 111 who stated I should request a face to face appointment because of the seriousness of the situation. This information was totally disregarded by the reception staff member on the phone who said I had to arrange an over the phone assessment with the doctor. In fairness, the doctor was very helpful and referred me for a real appointment with an actual human doctor person. The appointment initially went fine and he was clear with the information he gave me. The issue came when I went to ask him about a couple of other concerns I have. He cut my question short and told me he would not discuss any other concerns I had and continued to talk over me. I explained to him getting an appointment is a nightmare which is why I wanted to question him in regards to some concerns I've had for MONTHS yet he told me he has no time for me and to leave. How disgusting. Not only is it an absolute nightmare getting a physical appointment as you literally have to fight to get one, but when you do they don't even want to talk to you about any genuine concerns. You're made to feel like some sort of burden for wanting to have a health concern investigated so instead you suffer with said issue alone for months. I wouldn't mind, I was going to them with constant heartburn for over 10 years when after putting me on several different proton pump inhibitor meds they finally decided they'd refer me for an endoscopy and discovered I actually have a hiatus hernia. Regardless of the fact I had previously told them my cousin had actually died of esophageal cancer due to having the exact same symptoms for an extended period of time. Their duty of care to their patients seems to be of the lowest priority and all they seem to have a real interest in is merging with other local surgeries. Total waste of time
