"Unhelpful dermatologist, waste of time"

About: City Hospital / Dermatology

After multiple trips to and from my GP over the years I was finally referred here for cystic acne and ezcema on my lips and hands. After waiting over an hour the dermatologist I saw could not have been more unhelpful.

For the ezcema on my face he recommended I use lip balm and stop licking my lips, for on my hands just to use moisturizer and wash my hands less - I already do this. He did not allow me to explain what I have tried, drinking 3 litres of water every day, cut me short when I tried to explain I have had the skin condition for years and have tried everything from drinking water, medicated baths, eating aloe Vera you name it I've tried it.

My lips crack and bleed which is painful and embarrassing.

For my acne he told me drink more water cut me off when I tried to explain I already do and again I've tried everything for it.

For my acne he wanted to prescribe me accutane which I said no to. When asked why I pointed out the mental health side effects associated with it which have been in the American news recently. He waved this off as nonsense. If he had bothered to read my medical history he would see I have a history of mental health problems including 2 suicide attempts so I definitely don't want to risk taking any drug which could worsen this.

I walked back to the car in tears with my useless recommendations of drinking more water and using lip balm for skin conditions that effect my life everyday.

Today I called and was told it's a 12 week wait to see someone again.

Absolutely disgusting treatment
