In July 2019, I had a bad fall in the street in Saltcoats and fractured my hip. After receiving some immediate assistance from concerned passers by and staff from a local business, I was attended by a paramedic until the arrival of the ambulance. I cannot be precise about the exact waiting time but it did not seem excessive. After an initial assessment and treatment in the ambulance, I was conveyed to Crosshouse Hospital A and E Department for a more complete assessment. I was subsequently transferred to Ward 2C to await total hip replacement surgery the following day. The surgery went ahead as scheduled and the following day I was transferred to Ward 2B to begin rehabilitation. I was discharged home on Tuesday 23rd July and have since received two visits from the Community District Nursing Service to monitor the wound. I am due to receive input from the Community Physiotherapy Service shortly.
Throughout the process of assessment, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation, my family and I are delighted to report that the standard of care provided by all the staff involved in the various wards/departments was excellent in all respects. They were not only very professional in their approach, but also very caring and reassuring at all times. The level of communication was also very high, allowing us to have full awareness of what to expect at each stage of the process. This ensured that I was able to leave hospital greatly encouraged and fully briefed about my future recovery. Staff involved included nurses, auxiliary staff, doctors and physiotherapists. We cannot thank them enough for their kindness and their commitment.
"Fantastic care from all sections"
