"For such a specialist, a little too passive"

About: Priory Hospital North London

Recommended to come here to see one of the leading departments in ADHD, the result was more than a little lacking.

What I liked: the department was responsive and prompt with setting up appointments. The grounds are extremely comfortable and beautiful. And the treatment I received was both aggressive and helpful.

What wasn’t good: I would travel almost 6 hours for this appointment. And they would never last more than maybe ten minutes. At no point did I feel there was any kind of treatment plan. The extensive paperwork I was asked to fill out was never reviewed prior to my initial intake, meaning that most of that first session was spent regurgitating information already available and making me pay top price for that privilege. Most of all, at no point was any sort of treatment plan presented.

Despite several appointments over many months, I at no point felt like I wasn’t leading the treatment itself. I didn’t feel like there was any leadership on the other side of the table. And while new medicines were obliged and offered which I found effective, no education materials were suggested, therapies recommended or ideas offered. The consultant was very lethargic, quiet and passive. While I would recommend anyone needing adult ADHD treatment to see a specialist, what with NHS queue times typically being a year, be prepared to do a lot of your own research and reading. Because you’re the only one in the driver’s seat.
