"The best hospital care I could have hoped for"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Ayrshire Doctor on Call (ADOC) Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care Crosshouse Hospital / Xrays & Scans NHS 24

(as a service user),

I experienced a stroke and to start with I did not display typical symptoms a stroke. Therefore when I have called the NHS 24 line I did not find them very helpful. They arranged a call back from a nurse who I felt was asking me question in a way to control my answers in a direction that would downplay my symptoms so I am glad that the decision was made to have me checked out by doctors on call. Then once I was there they decided to treat my high sugars and sent me to the diagnostics department next a&e who were great. They listened to me with due diligence and carried out scans as precaution which picked up my stroke (CT scan).

From this moment the care was exceptional going to ward 3E, I was very impressed they took me in took all my info and were very positive and upbeat. I can honestly say every single person that looked after me was great. The staff were that positive and upbeat I asked a nurse if it was part of the job description to have a positive upbeat personality. I was admitted twice in two weeks both were best care I could have hoped for once in hospital. I only wish I could remember every nurses name to name them as would be unfair to name only a couple of the nurse when all were excellent.

Dear hydrask68,

I am so sorry to hear about your experience prior to being admitted to hospital. Stroke can present with a wide range of symptoms and I can only imagine how worrying this must have been for you. I see NHS 24 are linking with you in relation to this.

It is great to hear that you found the staff in 3E supported you during both your admissions. Care delivered with compassion and a positive attitude is so important at a time where you can feel very vulnerable and scared. I am glad you found this to be the case within the unit. Staff will be delighted to read your comments and how their support helped you on your road to recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on care opinion.

Best Wishes,

Christine
