"Unnecessary Five Hour Wait!!"

About: Epsom Hospital / Accident and emergency

What a waste of time!! I Initially called 111 and was sent to an out of hours GP, he looked at my injury and said he didn't know why I was sent to him, 111 should have sent me to A&E. He then sent me straight to A&E, with paperwork that said URGENT on the envelope. After an hour the First nurse at A&E assessed me and said she did know why I had been sent to A&E.??!! Back to waiting...half hour later.. they took bloodwork and then another 4 hours later was finally seen by a doctor.

Doctor spoke to me for maybe 3 minutes just to say sorry for the wait, but you should not have been sent here, you need to rest and take ibruprofen if needed, injury is self healing..!!! They didn't even bother give me any bloodwork results, as was unnecessary...not even sure if it was even tested.. Was told I had been bumped to the bottom of the queue all day. This could have been told to me much earlier...did not need to wait 5 hours.it would have been quicker for them to have taken a few minutes to tell me this and let me be on my way, which would also cut down their numbers, than keeping me there for 5 hours for a 2 minute conversation. In addition I was left with a £15 parking ticket for spending 5 unnecessary hours, because the issue was with leg pain, so had to park in the hospital parking lot to be close for walking. The staff that assisted me were not a problem, Dr was very nice, but seriously the wait was beyond ridiculous, obviously a person wants peace of mind...especially as the GP reffered me urgently...surely it would not have been difficult for a note to have been put on my file, that my issue could be dealt with quickly if was assessed at the initial stage as not urgent.

We are very sorry to hear about your long wait, and apologise for the frustration caused. We'll pass your comments onto the A&E team.
