"Excellent Consultant"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I recently attended the Gastroenterology Clinic at the RAH. Once again I was seeing my Consultant Dr Heydtmann. As normal the clinic was busy but I didn’t mind waiting as I know it means Dr Heydtmann is taking the time to listen to you. When I saw Dr Heydtmann I hadn’t been feeling very well for the previous couple of months and I assumed it was part of my condition and something I would need to live with. Dr Heydtmann seemed concerned and offered me a possible solution but said he would be monitoring my condition. I left my clinic visit with something I haven’t had in a long time and that was Hope. No matter how busy the clinic is Dr Heydtmann never rushes you but takes the time to listen and encourages you to ask questions. Everyone is quick to complain about the NHS but you never hear about the hard working doctors like this who actually put their patients first. The hospital and NHS are lucky to have this doctor and no doubt the other hard working ones like him.

People are always quick to complain but you very seldom hear about the positive side of the NHS. The doctors are under enormous pressure to see a vast amount of patients in a short time. When you actually get one who takes the time to listen and doesn’t rush no matter how late the clinic is running it’s a credit to the NHS.
