"Totally unnecessary journey"

About: Homerton University Hospital / Gastroenterology The Lawson Practice

(as the patient),

I checked with my practice to see if my appointment for a barium swallow had been confirmed. I was told ''No". I was asked to take the form (in person) to the Homerton hospital to make the appointment. When I got to the hospital I was told they could not deal with my request as the form was not signed by a clinician and no clinical information had been provided. 10 minutes later it transpired that my appointment had been made. I, an 83 yrs old man, Type 1 diabetic with AF, had been sent on a totally unnecessary journey in temperatures of 26C. It was, I was assured 'normal practice'

Hello, we are so sorry this happened to you and you are right, this was unnecessary. I would be really grateful if you could make contact with Andre Hull, our reception manager, and tell him who you are so that we can work out what happened. This means that we can ensure that whoever gave you this information which was incorrect can be told how the system works so that they don't do it to anyone else. We have had a number of temporary staff covering for sickness recently and maybe this is why but even so we need to know so that we can ensure it doesn't happen again. Please accept our apologies for the discomfort you were put through. D Colvin

Update posted by PH19 (the patient)

As requested I telephoned the surgery and asked to speak the reception manager. He was in a meeting, so I left a message. Three weeks later; still no call.
